It happens every weekend. People flock to Westmoreland Park with bag after bag of bread and other human food that they feed to the waterfowl that call the park home. Well, what goes in one end, must come out the other, so it’s no surprise that locals have dubbed this place “Goose Poop Park.”  But we can change that. These well-meaning visitors probably think they are helping the birds. But you know better. Here’s what you can do:

If you care about the birds and the health of Westmoreland Park, help keep wildlife wild by becoming a Park Steward! Simply click on the icon above to access a postcard that you can print and hand out to anyone you see feeding the birds. It’s an educational and non-confrontational way to gently let people know that they are doing more harm than good.

If everyone stops feeding the birds they will return to their natural habits and the park will become cleaner and healthier for everyone!

DID YOU KNOW THAT FEEDING WATERFOWL IS ILLEGAL AND CAUSES:

  • Water pollution
  • Poor nutrition
  • Spread of disease
  • Delayed or halted migration
  • Unnatural behavior
  • Overcrowding
  • Well-fed rats
  • Costly clean-up efforts
